Hi, My name is Gail McDonald and I wrote several diaries last year about the trials and tribulations of working on a Democratic presidential campaign in this republican hell we call Georgia. Through hard work and pure stubbornness, we are s-l-o-w-l-y taking back our state. And now I find myself in a local election against a good ol' southern boy with lots of money and friends. And we really need your help. My candidate, Darrell Black is running for House District 141, in a special election. The seat has been held by a Democrat for at least 34 years, if not longer. Our guy, Bobby Parham, resigned leaving an open seat. Our opponent, Rusty Kidd thought he would have the seat to himself and win unopposed. Boy, was he wrong? Rusty Kidd is running on a family name here in Milledgeville, Georgia. His daddy was a democrat in many offices over the years. Rusty is NOT a democrat. He supported John McCain with yard signs and money last year. He has given money to the republican party in the last few years. And now he is trying to run as an independent to catch those people loyal to his daddy's name. But Rusty does not represent democratic values. Rusty has become rich by owning quite a few predatory lending businesses. And he has been a paid lobbyist for many years. He has lobbied for insurance companies, tobacco and even the "adult entertainment industry" or porn as you and I call it. My candidate, Darrell Black, is a small business owner who took the call when the Democratic party asked him to run. He believes in trying to bring back jobs to middle Georgia, ensuring teachers don't get punished for government financial mistakes, and making sure values don't get lost in the game of politics.
